Impossible to write about clothes without first mentioning the pandemic, acknowledging the exhausting and I am sure frightening work
put in by front line workers around the world and the incredibly clever scientists who have brought vaccines into existence in such a short time span. May this pandemic end soon,

in all countries.

In Europe, I have built over many years, wonderful relationships with my suppliers of textiles. Many are family companies, whose children have stayed with me in New Zealand. My calls to mills in Italy and France were always a mix of business and some family. Now they are family, then business. Is everyone ok?

Buying textiles has been much more difficult, but we have collaborated to come up with some wonderful fabrics. I am grateful for
the extra efforts these suppliers have put in

on my behalf.

Overseas travel has been out of the question, so for my inspiration I have looked to all the wonderful things that I have brought back from my journeys to exotic destinations. My library

is crammed with glorious books, my studio at home is full of drawings, paintings, sculptures and objects, and of course, textiles.

Colour inspiration has come from around the world: ceramic tiles in Samarkand and Isfahan, spice markets in Zanzibar and Marrakech,
the golden glow of sand dunes at dawn in the Sahara and Gobi deserts, and of evenings in Tuscany. Rich pinks and greens from Rajasthan.

My small and talented team here has also applied interesting artisanal handwork to create some special limited-release pieces for this collection.

In this moment, we all want casual, comfortable clothes that can be pulled together quickly to look effortlessly stylish. Still proudly New Zealand made.
